In the blink of an eye summer is already wrapping up and move-In day is approaching fast. in order for this anticipated day to go as expected, having a checklist of things you need to bring will be a significant help. As you may know, Water Street Square apartments are fully furnished. Our team has already handled the heavy lifting, so that just leaves you with some minor things to take care of.
Here are 10 essential items, that often get forgotten about when it comes to move-in day.
1. Cleaning Supplies
You are going to want to pack basic cleaning supplies with you to wipe down surfaces and dust before you jump right into decorating. The apartments are are newly renovated and well-kept so there won’t be much for you to clean at first. However, buying your supplies now is a good idea so you can have it for the rest of the school year. Some items you’ll want to purchase include:
- Sponges
- Dish Soap
- Paper Towels
- All-purpose wipes / spray
- Broom and Dustpan
- Dust rags
- Toilet Paper
- Toilet cleaner
- Laundry detergent
This is a good start. Remember you don’t necessarily need to have everything and you can easily buy stuff down there as you go. However, getting it beforehand may help with avoiding the chaos at the local stores in town where all your fellow college friends are out getting their last minute items too.
2. Bins / Storage containers
Invest in several storage bins – you’ll thank yourself later. Not only is this beneficial for you to pack your things in, but it will be useful for storage space throughout the school year as well. When the seasons change, you probably won’t be needing your summer shorts and sandals any longer. Having extra storage bins is convenient so that you can tuck items away and bring them home the next time you plan on making a trip.
3. Black Trash Bags
These are an absolute must. With all of the new items you purchased for your apartment, you are bound to have plenty of trash from the boxes and packaging. Staying tidy and cleaning as you go will be much easier than dealing with a big mess when you finish setting up.
4. Clean Bedding / Pillows
We provide you with a bed, headboard, and mattress. But, we left the bedding up to you so you can add your own personal style. Be sure to bring sheets, pillow cases, pillows, and a light comforter for the start of the school year. As temperature drops again, you may want to get more blankets later on.
5. Toiletries
Purchasing all these things ahead of time is one less thing to worry about getting. Plus, this will last you awhile so you won’t have to go purchase these items anytime soon.
- Toothpaste
- Mouthwash
- Floss
- Deodorant
- Shampoo / Conditioner
- Razors
- Body Wash
- Q-tips / Cotton Balls
- Make-Up Wipes
- Hand Soap
6. Snacks / Drinks
Move-in day is long and exhausting. Pack a few snacks that can travel well so you can fight off the hunger as you work. Make sure to bring water bottles as well!
7. Speaker
Not really a necessity (some may argue it is though). This can help make your move-in process a little less stressful — because let’s face it, no one want to continuously unload box after box right when they arrive back in their college town. But, at least with a speaker you can listen to some good tunes to get you through the process.
8. Scissors, Tape, Command Hooks
These are very commonly forgotten about, but always are needed for something. Command hooks are super useful for hanging up pictures, posters, and decorations on your wall. Plus, they protect the paint and don’t leave any damage when you take them down.
9. Power Cords / Charges
Invest in power cords so you can charge your laptop, phone, I-pad, apple watch, all in once place. Make sure you bring all of your chargers with you when you are packing up for school, as this is also a number one item that is left behind!
10. Air fresheners, Candles, Oil Diffusers
Finally, purchase some of your favorite scented candles, air fresheners, and oil diffusers to get your place smelling nice!
